May 5, 1988)-Adele, is an award-winning British singer and songwriter whose music has captured the hearts and ears of music-lovers the world over. Adele's professional musical career began in 2006, when XL Recordings signed her to a recording contract after a friend of Adele' uploaded a demo recording of her singing on MySpace. In 2007, Adele won the Brit Awards "Critics' Choice" and then won the BBC Sound Award of 2008. Her debut album, titled "19," (after her age at the time of the album's production) was released in 2008. The album "19" went platinum four times in the United Kingdom. Adele's popularity and name recognition expanded after a Saturday Night Live appearance in late 2008. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, Adele received awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Adele hit the big time at the 2012 Grammy Awards, winning six Grammies. Her live performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards show was the first time she sang in public following delicate surgery on her vocal chords in 2011. Adele was born in Tottenham, north London, England on May 5, 1988. She began singing at the age of four, and has cited her love for the music of the Spice Girls as a major influence in her musical style. As she grew older, Adele was drawn to the music of artists such as she became interested in R&B artists such as Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, Pink, and Mary J. Blige.   Adele Performs "Someone Like You" In late June of 2012, Adele announced to the world that she was pregnant. Adele and her boyfriend, Simon Konecki, had been dating for about six months when she announced the news of her first pregnancy. Konecki is the co-founder of British charity Drop4Drop, which has as its goal to bring fresh water to poorer parts of the world. Konecki is a graduate of the upper-class English prep school Eton.
