Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28,
1986), is best known by her stage name as
Lady Gaga. Active as a professional recording artist
since 2005, Lady Gaga has captured attention not
only for her talented song-writing, keyboards,
and singing, but also for her outlandish stage
costumes and her outspoken advocacy of Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) issues and
rights. She is considered a "gay icon" and
compares herself in this light with Judy
Garland. In 2010 and 2011, Lady
Gaga appeared on the cover of Vanity
Fair. In May of 2012, Lady Gaga cancelled her shows
in Indonesia, a largely Muslim nation in
southeast Asia. There were fears for her safety
after large demonstrations protesting the
message of Lady Gaga's popular song, "Born
This Way." More conservative Muslims
objected to the pro-gay message of the song, as
well as to the sexually provocative manner in
which Lady Gaga often dresses and performs on
stage. On June 10, 2012, while performing on stage
in Auckland, New Zealand, Lady Gaga was hit in
the head with a pole on stage. While performing
"Judas," Lady Gaga was stepping down from an
upper level when a male dancer accidentally hit
her in the head with a pole he was moving. Lady
Gaga seemed stunned at first, but then continued
with the performance. It was later determined
that Lady Gaga suffered a concussion in the
accident. See the video of Lady Gaga's
concussion here: In July, 2012, it was announced that Lady
Gaga would begin her acting career in the Robert
Rodriguez film, Machete
Kills, due out in 2013. The
announcement was made with a movie poster
featuring Lady Gaga as the character La
Chameleon. See the Lady Gaga Machete
Kills poster below. Lady Gaga and her
