Football is one of America's favorite team sports, with the first college football game played on November 6, 1869, when Rutgers played against Princeton. The culmination of the modern college (NCAA) football season is the Bowl games played in late December and early January.

Below is information on the 21st Century history of the Las Vegas Bowl, begun in 1992 and held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

2001 Las Vegas Bowl: Utah Utes vs. Southern California Trojans.

Played on Dec. 25, 2001, with the Utah Utes defeating the the Southern California Trojans, by a score of 10 to 6.

 

2002 Las Vegas Bowl: UCLA Bruins vs. New Mexico Lobos

Played on Dec. 25, 2002, with the UCLA Bruins defeating the New Mexico Lobos by a score of 27 to 13.

 

2003 Las Vegas Bowl: Oregon State Beavers vs. New Mexico Lobos

Played on Dec. 24, 2003, with the Oregon State Beavers defeating the New Mexico Lobos by a score of 55 to 14.

 

2004 Las Vegas Bowl: Wyoming Cowboys vs. New Mexico Lobos

Played on Dec. 23, 2004, with the Wyoming Cowboys defeating the New Mexico Lobos by a score of 24 to 21.

 

2005 Las Vegas Bowl: California Golden Bears vs. BYU Cougars

Played on Dec. 22, 2005, California Golden Bears defeating the BYU Cougars by a score of 35 to 28.

 

2006 Las Vegas Bowl: BYU Cougars vs. Oregon Ducks

Played on Dec. 22, 2006, with the BYU Cougars defeating the Oregon Ducks by a score of 38 to 8.

 

2007 Las Vegas Bowl: BYU Cougars vs. UCLA Bruins

Played on Dec. 22, 2007, with the BYU Cougars defeating the UCLA Bruins by a score of 17 to 16.
 

2008 Las Vegas Bowl: Arizona Wildcats vs. BYU Cougars

Played on Dec. 21, 2008, with the Arizona Wildcats defeating the BYU Cougars by a score of 31 to 21.
 

2009 Las Vegas Bowl: Oregon State Beavers vs. BYU Cougars

Played on Dec. 22, 2009, with the BYU Cougars defeating the Oregon State Beavers by a score of 44 to 20.

*This edition of the Las Vegas Bowl was unique in that for the first time ever, both teams entered the game nationally ranked, with OSU ranked #14, and BYU ranked #18. This game marked the most points ever given up by an Oregon State team in a bowl game.
