Charlize Theron (b. August 7, 1975 ) is South African model and movie actress who is best known for winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in the 2004 film Monster. She is also well known for appearing in the 2012 movies, Prometheus and Snow White and the Huntsman.

Charlize Theron was born and raised in South Africa to a white Boer family of farmers. When Charlize was 15 years old, her mother shot and killed Charlize's father in self-defense against his drunken rage.

At the age of 16, Charlize Theron began a career as a model, and she and her mother moved to Italy to pursue this line of work. Later moving to New York City to learn ballet, but a knee injury forced her out of that artistic pathway. Deciding to try acting, Charlize Theron moved to Los Angeles, and began pursuing acting roles in movies. One of her first appearnances was in the direct-to-video Children of the Corn III in 1995. As she gained more roles in better films, her career advanced. Her roles in films such as The Devil's Advocate (1997), Mighty Joe Young (1998), and The Cider House Rules (1999) introduced her to movie audiences and opened up more opportunities.

In 1999, Charlize Theron appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, which declared her to be a "White Hot Venus."

Theron starred in Monster, a 2003 film in which she played the real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Charlize Theron won the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Actress, as well as winning the SAG Award, and a Golden Globe award for this stellar performance.

Her next two major films, both in 2005, were North Country and Æon Flux, earned her $10 million each, as she was able to draw on the fame of her Oscar win for an increased payday.

Charlize Theron's two 2012 films, Snow White and the Huntsman, and the Ridley Scott space thriller Prometheus, both cast her as villains. In the Snow White remake, Charlize Theron portrays Snow White's evil stopmother, Queen Ravenna, who is an evil witch bent on killing Snow White. Charlize Theron is truly evil in this film, her superb acting letting the audience believe she is (beautiful) evil incarnate. Her role as Vickers, the head of a trillion-dollar space expedition to find humanity's roots, is a bit different. We see her as a stern, controlling, but very fearful figure who will stop at almost nothing to protect herself and her mission.
