Died: October 12, 1870, in Lexington, Virginia

Sons: George Washington Custis Lee, William H. Fitzhugh Lee, and Robert Edward Lee

Occupation: Officer in the United States Army (1829-April 20, 1861), the Confederate States Army (April 23, 1861-1865), President of Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) from Oct. 2, 1865-

Career History: Served in the U.S.-Mexican War, served as the superintendent at West Point from (1852-1855), commanding Colonel of the 2d Cavalry in West Texas (1857-1861), commander of the U.S. forces at Harper's Ferry (1859)

U.S.-Mexican War: Battle of Cerro Gordo (April, 1847), Battle of Contreras, Battle of Churubusco, Battle of Chapultepec, and the Battle for Mexico City.
